As the draft is winding down, I assume we are going to be starting the FA auctions here very soon. I think there is a lot of strategy in who is nominated in what order for the auctions and instead of having one person pick the first 10 players to begin the auction, I suggest that the top 10 teams in the standings last year (Mets, Braves, Orioles, Athletics, Rockies, Nationals, Rays, Tigers, Royals, and Yankees) each choose one player to be in the initial list. Each of us can message our player to Braves or Rockies by Feb. 4th and they can put the list together and post it to get started on Feb. 6th. If someone is nominated twice, they can let that team know to nominate someone else. Then the auction can proceed as it normally does. Also, if someone does not nominate a player within 24 hours of winning an auction, a commish can put someone else up. Thoughts???

I don't see the harm in letting every team nominate 1 player (which we know not every team will). 10 or 16 I don't see much of a difference

Letting every team nominate a player sounds good to me too. Question though, does the winner of the auction still put another player up for bid, or would it be whichever team runs that "auction"? In other words, every team would have 1 auction running where they nominated the player. So mine might say:
ROCKIES AUCTION
Cal Ripken
Regardless of who wins Ripken, once it is finished I would nominate another player. This way every team would be responsible for having one guy up for auction.
Just a thought.

I'm fine with that as well. I was just thinking about leaving at 10 because we have. I am also ok with the thought that the bottom 10 teams get to be the ones who nominate as another competitive balance thing.

Rockies, that is an interesting idea. That way everyone stays involved in the auction process even if they are not interested in the guys who are up or have no more money.

I hate to be the negative Nancy (and yes I just called myself a Nancy lol) but I love the idea but worry. I'd say only half to 3/4 of the owners are fully engaged here on a daily even semi daily basis and if we rely upon them to be forced to keep the auction going at their own casual pace we could be here a while. Especially when they might not have anyone to bid on and little care outside of their teams. Just my 2 cents but I do like the idea in theory.

Well, if we did everyone nominating and taking care of their own auctions, even if only half were consistent, we'd still have 8 auctions going on at a time even in a worst case scenario

Free Agency will start once the MiLB draft has been completed. I like the idea above so lets have the 12 teams WHO DID NOT make the playoffs throw out a player for nomination. So 12 auctions in lieu of 10 like years past. Any disagreement?

And then proceed like years' past with the auction winner nominating the next player and so on?

Ok guys we can officially start this -- just a reminder you can not bid on anyone more than you have money. So if you have $100 to spend you can not have 2 guys winning auction at $51 a piece
Let's roll !

Sounds good to me! Let's see how fast I can spend $17...sounds about like a set-up man and 4th outfielder.

since we always fuck this up, thought I'd bring it up now. Offseason free agent clock is 24hr regardless??? and inseason is 48hr on initial nomination and the goes to 24 after someone else bids???

with thought behind that being that, we all should be on and active during offseason free agency because we are trying to fill out a team and initial goes to 48 for inseason so that it's harder to slip guys thru since we are all not on the proboards site as much. Sound correct?
