The current set up is any player signed after Aug 31st can only be signed for the rest of the year. This poll would change that rule to read that Sept.1st is the end of in-season free agency.

I didn't see much discussion on this before, so just curious why everyone is in favor of the signing cutoff? I know a lot of people who are out of contention aren't as aggressive making moves towards the end of the season, but since you can only sign through the end of the year, I don't see any negative effects. Say I am out of it this year and cut Shane Victorino, the most anyone is going to get out of him at a (possibly) discounted price is a month.
It's hard to think of that many (non-rookie) free agents that become relevant in September -- maybe LaTroy Hawkins becoming the Mets' closer down the stretch last year? It seems like it only matters very rarely, but why not give the teams that are still playing for something a chance to improve their team in the playoffs?
Sorry, that was way longer than I intended that comment to be...

for me the deadline cutoff was not as important as the more of a penalty for doing it. There were teams with literally 50+ players added and dropped last year and that is a distinct advantage that can ruin a league. We can't have one team add and drop 3-5 guys per week. Streaming is for non-dynasty and non-salary cap leagues. I propose if a player is dropped that is under $10 they get hit with 75% not half of the salary.

Yanks, I would be in favor of that but have a threshold to hit before that penalty. Such as after 10 transactions in-season. Reds, I know last year Danny Farquhar was available for saves and Paco Rodriguez for holds. Even though I picked up Paco, I would be ok with having your team set once the playoffs arrive. I also think I may have had the fewest in-season moves of a contending team last year so take my thoughts for what they're worth.

Yanks, good point, I hadn't been considering that. I agree this is not the league for streaming.
I'm changing my vote to 'yea'...if the worst consequence of this is that Danny Farquhar and LaTroy Hawkins don't help decide fantasy championships, I think we can live with that.

I would be ok with having your team set once the playoffs arrive. This is mainly what I was trying to get at and have always thought should be the case. But last year there was quite a bit of streaming going on late, which I hope this help curve.

Not all votes have been entered but we have an overwhelming majority. Aug 31st deadline goes in to effect for the 2014 season and beyond.
