There is some confusion on whether the new GM's should be able to bid on their own free drops. Personally I think this is a different scenario than what is in the rules. One of our new GM's has explained their viewpoint very well:
"Houston just posted that we can't bid on a guy that we had cut. I'm a little surprised by that because, A) nobody told us that we couldn't cut a guy and then pick him back up in the auction and B) these were free cuts, different than the cuts people make where they are still paying a portion of a players salary. Given that, I don't see why we can't bid on Wright."
I think I am to blame for this because of point A.
What do you think?

Well I saw this as I was being bid up on Reyes by FLA who had dropped him. So its not like bidding on Johan for just 10M (just saying).
The rules state a waiting period of 30 days, and the rules should have been read and understood before the free drops were made (though a reminder from Braves might have been good)
Just my quick two cents

I think GM's can bid on their free drops, but that's it.
If a GM wants to bid on a guy that he has to pay a penalty for, I like the 30 day rule.

I'll throw my 2 cents in I think the new guys should be allowed to bid. This rules was put in place to stop people from using the loophole to their advantage which I truthfully don't think they are doing here. I'd say for these free drops the rule can be disregarded but for the future it has to be in tact

I raised this issue, so I'll add a few thoughts. My main argument is that free drops are different from the typical releases an owner makes. The free drops, as they were explained to me, are a way for a new owner to get out from under a bad contract he had no role in. In comparison, an owner who signs or trades for a player understands what he is getting into. So when he releases the player, he bears the responsibility. But it doesn't make sense to penalize a new owner for a contract that he wasn't involved in.

I think Reds summed it up perfectly there.
