Some pretty advanced stats here boys. They don't show anything but the truth.
KIRBY PUCKETT MEMORIAL – POWER RANKINGS (Week 5)
Welcome to the inaugural version of the most in depth statistics based
power rankings ever created for the league. My hope is that these
rankings help give teams a clearer picture of where they stand at this
point in the season. As we all know Wins and Losses can often times be
deceptive in predicting a teams true standing so with that in mind I
set out to develop a method of determining just how well (or poor) a
team is performing based on metrics.
Ranking Methodology[/b]
These rankings were developed using a multi-tiered approach. No one
measuring tool was weighted above or below any others thus creating a
ranking that aims to be free of bias and based solely on statistical
measures. Below are the steps taken to develop these rankings.
1) Used the “Standings” page on the ESPN league to compile the total
outputs of each team across the 12 categories scored.
2) Went week-by-week and input the data for each team faced to create
both an average and total sum of the stats put up against each team.
3) Used formulas to create a “net” (difference between margin of
production as a team and against the teams faced).
4) Used data derived from the “net” to rank teams based on higher net ouputs.
5) Tiebreakers were decided by strength of schedule (higher SoS being better).
