I don't understand this deal for the Mariners. I know Montero is a very good catching prospect but trading one of the top young pitchers in all of baseball is just confusing to me. As a Sox fan I am all but giving the Yanks the division now. I don't see any team in the AL that can compete with them

Yeah it blew me away as well. I think Seattle should have gotten more back. They also gave up Campos & only got Montero & Noesi in return. Talk about collusion!

LOL Rookies.
4.40 ERA on the road, and a .286 BABIP on the road. And now he has to pitch in a supreme hitters park where lefties dominate (.279 BABIP vs. Lefties).
Stop looking at just names.

Yeah Pineda's stats were much better at home and dipped significantly the second half of the year but just based on his hype and how the M's seemed to value him the past year it was a shock

Montero plays everyday and will hit for 18 years if they can keep him. Pineda is good but only helps once every 5 days.
The mariners need offense!

As a yankees fan this is an absolutely amazing deal. I assumed we'd trade Montero but me and the rest of the Yankee universe had assumed it would be for some old reliable, but the key word there is old. The Yankees starters needed a youthful turn and they have taken that with the last few strategic moves they have made and it's refreshing. I'd much rather take a shot on Pineda's upside rather than a guy who is a #2-3 in their early 30's.
The Yankees projected starting 5 in a few years could be CC-Pineda-Nova-Betances-Banueles
that's a youth movement we've all wanted since the failed Hughes-Joba combo --- and to add the Kuroda deal was awesome as well giving the young guys another year to develop.

I'm not a rookie, it's just that you don't see trades like this in anymore.
