Rookie Buyout ProgramA player on a rookie contract may have his final year bought out and signed to an extension. Max years for the extension is 5 (the buyout year plus 4 additional years) but an owner can choose to extend a player for less than the max years. - The value of the extension will be based on the average of the top 5 paid players at the same position from the previous year. Outfielders and Starting Pitchers value will be based on the average of the top 8 at the position.
- Multi-position eligible players will be priced at the position they played the most games.
- All outfielders will be lumped together.
- All relievers will be lumped together.
- 2 way players that played full time at both positions the previous year will be eligible for buyout at the position with the higher dollar value.
- Deadline to buyout a rookie is the day before the season starts.
