We would be able to buyout the last year of a rookie contract player and sign said player to a new up to 4 year max contract. The annual rates of the top 5 paid same positional players would be averaged out to determine the buyout value.
Example: Yankees wants to buyout the last year of Evan Longoria's contract. The average salary of the top 5 3B in our league based on 2011 salaries is $34.20. He could then sign Longoria to a new 4 year deal at $34.20 and effectively keep him off the free agent market the following year.
My opinion is that this will just enhance the dynasty feel to this league and can help prevent guys from loading up on big 1 year deals.

Random question that I thought of when looking at my roster and saw Bourn there.
Since we have a specific spot in our lineups that requires a CF, would that average be calculated separately? Or would all outfielders be lumped together?
Also (and this doesn't seem like it would be an issue for elite players, like the ones most likely being extended), what about multi-position eligibility? Would the owner be able to sign the guy at his cheapest position?

Choosing the cheapest position seems wrong. It should probably either be:
1) The pay for the position they play at the most frequently, which seems most fair. 2) The most expensive position, if we are going to act as if the players would choose to act in their own self interests.
Personally, I choose 1. Option 2 is very reasonable if we want to base this on a more realistic depiction of players motivations. Paying the cheapest position seems ridiculous.

Prop #1 has been voted in and will go into affect immediately.
For players with multi-position eligibilty it will go by which position they played the most. Outfielders will all be lumped together.
One problem we have is that I thought I had a copy of the spreadsheet before I started dropping the expiring contracts but that is not the case. However, between the 16 of us I think we can remember the top 5 position salaries as I did when figuring out the 3B value.
Prop #2 is next up.

or do u all anticipate then deals being higher bc of the average corner OF being worth more than the avg CF? CFs overall arent as much with a few exceptions in mccutcheon, kemp and grandy
