Guys,
Randy brought this up yesterday in the Zoom meeting and it's something him and I had talked through when we met up for the draft order.
Every year we have a handful of prospects that are not drafted that end up coming up and being productive (Seiya Suzuki, Alexis Diaz, Felix Bautista, etc) and we have to wait months and months for them to become auction eligible. With as deep as our league is it would be nice if there was a way to use these players instead of watching them collect valuable stats in the FA pool. So the concept is this.
In season, if there is a undrafted prospect that has made a big league appearance (1 AB or 1 IP...we can discuss these numbers if some feel it should be higher) he then becomes eligible to be auctioned on a 1 year contract. This would allow us to maximize the depth that's available in free agency. Restricting these players to a 1 year contract would ensure that the following off-season these players are either draft eligible if they haven't surpassed the rookie threshold or a free agent with every team having a fair shot at signing them.
This would eliminate some of the late season signings that teams hold onto their money for and it would also eliminate some of the in-season 1x4 contracts given out to young players but I don't think those things go away completely. I believe there will still be guys that get over looked until they surpass their rookie limit. But overall we thought this could be a big benefit to the league as a whole by allowing us to almost immediately put to use a group of players that we've had to ignore until they became FA eligible, while keeping everyone honest with the 1 year contract limit and trying to stay true to the leagues existing dynasty structure.
I'm not looking to make this more complicated than it needs to be but as always I'd love to hear your guys thoughts and have a discussion if you all think it's something worth implementing.

I think this should really help us not see stats sitting there wasted. I also like the 1 AB or 1 IP rule. Is there any way we can make a clause to that rule for International players not signed prior to the start of the draft, but signed afterward (Suzuki, Darvish, etc.)? I feel those players are a unique situation and I think I would rather see them in the regular off-season auction than on Opening Day. If not, no big deal. I am all for this change!

Yea. In season. 1 ab or 5 or 10. Or just a flat game player across the board.

I believe Randy's point on the international guys was for guys like Seiya Suzuki that sign after the draft starts but are signed to a big league deal to be eligible for a 1 year deal as soon as FA starts and not have to wait until Opening Day. My preference for the sake of ease would be to leave it at 1 game played for everyone not drafted. But in that instance I think we're talking on average like 1 player every few years. So however you guys want to handle it is fine by me, just let me know.

Okay with 10 votes looks like most everyone is in favor of this. We just need to decide how we want to handle what is outlined in my previous post above. Thanks to everyone that voted.

Yes. After the MLB season starts these players are eligible to be auctioned on a one year deal.
I know there are a few things like this I need to update in the rule book when I have the time.

I’m all for it. So would these players just go in the free agent mid season signing section?

Yep, but again only a 1 year deal and they have to have at least 1 AB or 1 IP.
