Well this joke of a season is almost to an end and I know we are all looking at 2021 for a real season that counts again.
I figured that since we are all engaged this would be a good time to talk about a new rule. It's minor but it's been a problem for a few years now.
We should make a rule stating that when bidding on a player and having to drop someone you must drop the player originally named. Far too often we see that someone says they'll drop player a, then switch it to player b and when they eventually win the bid now player c.
We required the announcing of players a few years ago to stop these kind of tactics but they are still being used with this loophole. It hasn't affected me personally but it can hurt in the future owners potentially stopping a bid because of the guy to be dropped, or other issues I'm sure you guys can see.
(obviously if the bid goes too high and another player needs to be added that's ok)
This isn't directed at any owner individually but it's a good time to address this since we are in season and people are active.

Why are you proposing this?

because people have been using loopholes for the original rule for years and every single offseason it's brought up. So why not iron rules out now rather than the offseason ?

As far as this goes, I just think you shouldn't be able to change the player you are dropping after the auction has ended

How is it a loop hole if it accomplishes the same thing?
Ex. Auction takes 5 days. Another player has a season ending injury in that same time frame. You now have to cut 2 people instead of 1 where we are limiting cuts for a player you don’t even own yet.

Guys are taking advantage and have been for years. Sure, an injury might occur but that is very rare and hasn't happened. Rather what is happening is someone throws up and name and changes it 3-4 times over the course of 2-3 days then when the auction is done change it again.
If an owner say needs a 3B and SS and you as an owner are outbidding him for the premiere waiver wire shortstop but claim you are dropping a 3B, he very well might lay off and figure ok I won't keep it up because I'll take this 3B instead. Then when it's changed you've used a loophole.
There are other examples like dangling a "drop" just to gain trade interest, which people have done with no intention of dropping that player, and changing the player just because you see someone bidding and he's in contention with you, which was done to another owner a few years ago.
We try hard to make this like real baseball (this would never fly that a team announces they are dropping multiple guys then pulls them back) and this is a very minor rule change to stop the massive manipulation that CAN occur. If the league doesn't like it that's fine, really doesn't have to be a whole big deal, can't even imagine why it's being contested, but it has the ability to stop sneaky owners

Ok, so I'm going to try to jump in here and end the endless debate that might potentially occur on this. Why don't we do a poll and see where people are at on this. 3 Options: 1) Leave exactly as is, 2) Change to team must drop first player named as drop when auction ends, 3) Change to team must drop last player named before auction ends. I think this covers the 3 options, correct? Any others thoughts for the poll?

I think you’re blowing out of proportion a “1 off” situation with your manipulation conspiracy lol
If a player is worth rostering they are getting traded for pennies rather than getting cut.
What wrong with trading someone you intend to cut if you actually don’t need to cut that player yet because the auction might linger a week or longer?

No one is changing their cut after the auction has ended. The precedent that was set by the former commish is that as long as the auction is active you can change your cut and this is how it continues to be handled. I'm not going to dig back thru past auctions but I know for a fact that I have called a few owners on this and not allowed them to change their cut because the auction was over.
I really don't see how this is currently handled affects the process negatively.

One other change i would want to propose and see what others think is to switch Roster Limit from 35 to 40! Same as In REAL baseball There so many guys still worth stashing in FA and this way i dont have to drop a guy Like Poncedeleon or others .
