Okay let's keep voting on this each step of the way. Assuming we decide to keep RFA rights at some level. We need to determine what all benefits that entitles the owner to.
I think we all want to keep the ability to extend the contract years so that is not current up for vote at this time.

How about no RFA? That is my vote

Seems like that could be part of a subsequent poll - we could decide on who is eligible for RFA / how many you could have...and zero could certainly be an option there.

This current poll seems like an easier debate to settle - if RFA is kept, what discount should it be?

Exactly Reds. No RFA is an option and could be on the table in latter discussions but first I think we need to determine what a RFA actually means. I don't see the point in voting for specific limit of RFAs if we don't what that actually entails.

9 votes for matching w/ 10 % discount so that is the majority. Only 1 vote each for the other options.
So we know we want to revamp the current system starting with next years RFAs and we now have defined what RFA benefits will mean be moving forward.
Now that we have some parameters established, do we want to open the discussion back up or would you guys prefer I keep proposing options that have already been discussed to vote on?

It sounds like we will need to move to a system where we identify RFAs by a certain time in the offseason and either tag them or something similar. So I would say the next vote would be on how many RFAs we can protect each year. Either 0-2, 3-5, or 6 or more to begin and then break it down from there. Just my thoughts.

Sounds like a plan, I can get something written up today but I don't think we want to have more than 3 or 4 tags per team. 3 per team is 48 RFAs if every team used them. So any more and we would just be taking a different road to end up at the same destination. I think the options should be a max of 2, 3 or 4. You can always choose to tag else.
I also think we need to establish what the system will be going forward first and then we can circle back to whether we want there to be any additional compensatory options for next off-season.

I think before we move forward we discuss the franchise player options and length of contract extentions. This will have a huge impact on decisions moving forward. You know my stance. This is a dynasty league and the purpose of this as opposed to a straight keeper is to retain players longer. Most teams should look fairly similar year to year and it puts importance on the minor leagues.

I'm not dismissing your post Tommy but I think contract extension length is a completely different conversation, which we can absolutely start but I feel like we already have a franchise tag option of sorts. You can buyout rookie contracts and extend them for another 4 years without anyone bidding on them. So you could possibly have 9 years of a player contributing to your team (the free year, 3 years on a rookie contract, plus another 5 (year 4 of RC + another 4) if you buyout at max years). 9 years of no competition for ownership seems like a franchise tag option to me and it definitely puts importance on your minor leaguers. I know some will or have argued about the price of the buyouts but like I have said before I think we will start seeing that come down some as we are just now seeing the affects of the higher rookie prices. I do think we need to give it time to play out and let some self correction happen before we go blowing everything up.
The system is not perfect and probably will never be but it does needs some tweaking. The consensus is that the RFA is what needs to be addressed because it is taking away some of the fun from the auction process. Partly because there seems to be more and more RFAs every year which most agree is not a healthy environment. I believe we need to make an adjustment to that process and then give it time for the affects to maturate.
