Just read that article myself. It's an interesting concept but I think it would pose too many problems

Yeah - I was typing out a response and came up with a few issues - mostly attendance and injury based. But also, it would be really weird for the player to play against his own team (you maybe could do a, have to switch leagues thing, but with the constant interleague play now, that probably wouldn't work either).

And since the player isn't technically under contract with that team they would have no issue running him into the ground, which could present even more issues

Well, I think they covered that in the article. Not on short rest, can't start a new batter after 110 pitches, etc

Right they did but if you put too many restrictions on the player to the point that he can't be used like everyone else it almost defeats the purpose and would seriously make teams think twice before giving up anyone of value for a loaner player

I agree. The reason it works in soccer is because it works the other way. A team loans a young player who does not have a role to a lesser team for playing time, not one of their stars. This would make more sense if, for example, last year the Dodgers loaned Joc Pederson to the Phillies or White Sox to get PT but then that would affect the service time clock. I don't think you would ever see professional sports teams loan their stars out with all the risks involved.

The one big thing I am in favor of for this league to make it more realistic is backing your guys long term. Of course it can't be more than 1 or two guys but I have always been in favor of that. It can help like with Longoria big 10 year deal etc, or hurt like Cargo and Tulo. But the option is good
I have no idea how to even propose we could do it but I am sure we all have 1-2 young guys we worry about their clocks already and would take the risk to lock up long term. Just a thought if someone can figure a way it could be very cool
