Being Angels is new I'm not sure how I feel about this. per the New GM thing in the rule book I'm going to leave it to the the Trade Committee members that are not part of the trade to decide.
Reds - Cards - Red Sox - Rangers - Veto

I vote that the trade needs to be reworked. I’m not one to step in the way of people making trades but I think the combination of the MLB players, the picks and cap make this trade too one sided in my opinion.

I will vote for rework too. I mulled it over a bit, but with there being the specific policy for new GMs, I tend towards being more cautious than I would for a normal trade. I can see Gunnar + Hassell for Volpe + Dominguez as even (or even a lean towards the first two) but the rest tilts too much.

Reds and Rangers thanks for the input.
For the record I had similar thoughts about this deal that is why I asked for the TCs input. If I was way off here I would have gladly eaten crow.
Player wise I feel it's pretty fair. Yanks is giving up the slightly better prospects but he is getting the prospects he wants and Jazz is clearly the better big leaguer. However, the picks and cap do not add up in my opinion.
I think most of us are still getting to know Angels so I hope he doesn't take any of this the wrong way. But unfortunately I also have to take into account that this league has a pretty long history of new GMs making bad trades to the benefit of veteran GMs. Only for the newbs to be out of the league before the next season is complete. No telling what will happen here but I just wanted to do my due diligence here even if it ruffles feathers.

We haven't heard from Cards but 3 of the 4 say rework it. Any reworked deal will need to be posted as a new trade. I am moving this thread to the trade discussion tab.

Angels here
Just some background info, im not a sports noobie, pretty intelligent about it. Ive hosted a sports talk radio show almost 20 years now and really dont have a life outside sports lol. I feel Tommy is also intelligent enough to know if a side is weighed too much. Can we get this resolved so we can move on with other potential trader talks? Thanks guys, looking forward to the season

No use Tim. He didn't even respond. He knows he's in the wrong here and should be embarrassed about this. Trust me this league is better than this, don't judge the commish or this league on this. It's usually on the up and up

Hey guys,
Just want to make this clear - I don't think there were any bad intentions on Tommy's part (though obviously we are all always looking to maximize return value in a trade) and I definitely don't mean to suggest Tim isn't knowledgeable on baseball or is out of his depth here in anyway.
We haven't been asked to weigh in on these "New GM" situations very often. A number of years back, Mike had written this: "I view the intent as more than protecting a new guy from being fleeced but also allowing him to get some insight on how league functions and values certain commodities." I suppose that is how I look at it too - for things like a 2nd rounder vs. a 4th rounder, and players on rookie contracts, I know how those are roughly valued in the league and there are enough unique rules in this league that my prior fantasy experience didn't inform that a ton.
To elaborate a little more, my two main reasons were Jazz and the picks. I figure Jazz would go for something like $25 if he was an unrestricted free agent, so the rookie deal means a savings of like $15-22 each of the next three years. For the picks, figured that #18 overall is going to be a guy that is a consensus top 100 prospect among pretty much all experts, while #63 might be an upside guy you're betting on before they do much of note or a lower upside guy, etc. (Although I admit the draft can very much a crapshoot and there will be someone picked in the 60-65 range who outperforms a majority of the guys in the 15-20 range.)
Having said all that, I have now voiced my thoughts and tried to give insight I had, and I want new managers to be active and adjust their team. It sounds like Tim heard some of the comments and was like "no thanks, I'm good anyway." I'm wagering he's higher on Adell than I am, and maybe he thinks Gunnar is a tier above Volpe, or something else. And if that's the case, I said my piece, and I'll approve.

I have remained basically quiet trying to keep things between myself and the commish so it doesn't hurt Mike's reputation and the league and because I honestly considered him a friend. But I will say this ... Thank you for your very well said response, as always you put it well, but my overall problem is exactly what you said. The "new GM" rule was the reason that Mike asked for the trade committee to get involved. It's the reason why we are even having this discussion. Except 30 days had passed, actually doubled in days, so that rule is not applicable, no veto was formally made, and thus should have never been brought to the table.
If Mike didn't uncover this random, seldom used rule, (that again, didn't even apply), then the trade would have been approved that day. Now the new GM lost the ability to make his very first move in the league and the reasoning is shady at best.
Well there's my 2 cents

I wish I had the benefit of operating in this league only wearing one hat, only worrying about what is best for my team, unfortunately I don't.
I didn't put the rule in place so honestly I didn't read it word for word but 30 days or not it was within the 24 hours and this is Angels first transaction, in fact he only signed up here when it was time to accept the trade. I believe the intent of the rule TJ put in place was to allow the new GMs the time to understand the value of the finer points of this league, the rookie contracts, drafts picks, salary cap, not necessarily their player values. So I asked the TC to weigh in and the ones that spoke up had similar concerns as I. You keep saying this hurts my reputation but I'd argue it's hurts it more by not bringing this to everyone's attention especially considering you are the one that brought Angels into the league and we haven't heard anything out of him prior to this trade so who knows how long he'll be around. But if the TC wants to allow this to go through I will approve it.
